We Do Something

Sometimes it's better to do something than to do nothing, at least that's my philosophy... doing nothing is generally frustrating and not a little boring. As the dying man said on the streets of Pamplona, "'Tis better to be gored than bored". Of course, it's idealest to avoid both.
But you don't get into the ghost-bustin' racket if you have an oyster for a backbone. Nope, you gotta have a titanium spine and fiberoptic nerves (and a few rusty and loose screws in the old brain-pan).Bottom line: we decided that we should try to figure out some course of action.
Of course that's generally easier said than done when you're being held hostage by religious cultists who are in imminent danger of beg wiped out by the National Guard... now that I'm safe and sound and telling you this story I'm tempted to say something dashing like "All in a day's work !" or "Twas a trifling inconvenience" but the fact of the matter is that I was quite nervous. Not just nail-biting nervous, either; I was plumb Freaking Out nervous.
"Sit down," Nathan said. "Let's think of a plan."
"Plan? Plan? What kind of a plan?"
"A plan that'll get us out of this."
"I don't see any way out! I don't see any way out! We're trapped like bugs in a windowpane!"
"Look, I admit it doesn't look all that spiffy from here, but there must be something we can do rather than sit here, or pace about, as the case may be." Nathan put a thoughtful expression on his face. "You know, we didn't come here to be held as bargaining tools in a war with the government."
     "Well, DUH!"
"No, I mean, we came to check out the Supernatural aspects of the case. And debunk them."
     "I guess."
"Well, this is the perfect opportunity! If we can debunk this whole 'Gates of Hell' scam, I mean, show all of Woodbine's people that he's just a big humbug, this whole mess'll blow over with no harm to anybody! It's perfect!"
"I don't know how 'perfect' that is..."
"No, come on! Let's do it! This is the perfect time!"
Go down in the basement and open that door? All of a sudden boredom looked pretty damn exciting.
